CMC SUPPORTS THE LEED® INITIATIVE

CMC is committed to sustainability from recycling to production to fabrication of steel products. We are dedicated to being transparent about reporting the environmental impact we have on the Earth.

We support the efforts of the U.S. Green Building Council and are active in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) initiative. LEED® is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across a number of metrics.

All of CMC’s steel mills utilize state-of-the-art Electric Arc Furnace technology to make steel. This technology uses pre- and post-consumer recycled scrap as the primary raw material for the steelmaking process and averages 98.0% recycled content. With a significantly high percentage of recycled materials, all of CMC’s products play a major role in “green construction” and are a positive contributor to the LEED® rating system.

CMC can supply fabricated rebar that can contribute a full credit under LEED® v4 or LEED® v3 (2009), since we have a national fabrication footprint and manufacturer-specific USGBC EPDs.

On October 31, 2016, USGBC officially transitioned to LEED® v4. The sunset date for LEED v3 was June 30, 2022. The below links will direct you to CMC’s LEED® data for the current LEED® v4 as well as LEED® v3 for those projects that are qualifying under the legacy rating system. CMC is helping to “LEED®” the way to sustainable steelmaking.

LEED® v4

This analysis was conducted according to the North American Product Category Rule (PCR) created by SCS Global Services for Designated Steel Construction Products (SCS 2015) and reviewed and certified by ASTM as conforming to the requirements of ISO 21930 and ISO 14025.

To meet LEED® v4 requirements, these Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) have been developed for the following steel products manufactured at CMC steel mills.
