The Ladle Metallurgical Station

Once the steel is melted and tapped from the EAF, it is transferred to the Ladle Metallurgy Station or LMS where the steel chemistry and temperature are finalized to applicable standards.

Alloy additions are added while the steel chemistry and temperature is homogenized through the use of an electromagnetic stirring coil. The 20 MVA transformer feeds power to the 14" electrodes to ensure every heat is sent to the continuous caster with an exact temperature.

CMC World News
Getting Greener

CMC is at the forefront of environmentally-friendly steelmaking procedures. We are committed to using the latest technology to minimize our environmental footprint.

  • Dust, once the most voluminous by-product in the steelmaking process, has been virtually eliminated by baghouse air filtering technology.
  • Iron and other metals filtered in baghouses are recycled.
  • Water used in our steelmaking process is completely recycled, cleaned and used for landscaping our facilities.
