The Caster

 
Molten steel is delivered from the LMS to the 4-strand caster to produce billets. The molten steel is metered out of the ladle into an 18-ton tundish where the steel has time for inclusions to float out. The steel then flows through tundish slide gates into the water-cooled casting molds - to produce 4 continuously cast strands.

The billets are cut to a specified weight.
