What Makes us Better

CMC Steel South Carolina became a part of the Commercial Metals Company in 1994 with the acquisition of the South Carolina based Owen Companies. The mill was formerly known as Owen Electric of South Carolina and had begun its operations in 1961. Since the purchase by CMC we've made many dramatic changes and upgrades.

  • Danieli 17 stand in-line Rolling Mill (pictured on home page). The Mill is considered one of the finest and has contributed to improvements in safety, quality and production.

  • Melt Shop Furnace upgrades include larger 95 ton heat size, carbon injection, burner system, lime system, new ladle crane and baghouse improvements. A new Ladle Metallurgical Station and alloy system also were added, and on the Caster, upgrades included 18 ton tundishes, mold cooling system, withdrawals, billet weigh system and a full automation system. These projects in conjunction with our Skilled Melt Shop Team is a combination that's continuously improving our melting capabilities.

  • Significant upgrades to our in-plant Warehousing include a new Climate Controlled Facility to ensure surface quality. Rail facilities and plant roads have been upgraded to improve logistics. We've also added a new shipping saw line for a further improvement in customer service. Our Customer Service department prides itself in superior turn around times provided to our customers.
