Program Requirements

In order to be considered for participation in the co-op program at CMC Steel Alabama, students must meet the following requirements:

  • Must apply through the Co-op Program at the college you are attending.
  • Majoring in a program approved and specified by CMC Steel Alabama.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 2.4/4.0 or above and meet the requirements of the college's Co-op program.
  • Must have completed 1 full semester of college.
  • Must be willing to commit to three (3) semesters of work sessions at CMC Steel Alabama.

    How do I apply?
    Contact your school's co-op counselor for information about specific openings, application deadlines and packages. We will conduct interviews at your school or in Birmingham, AL.

  • Dust, once the most voluminous by-product in the steelmaking process, has been virtually eliminated by baghouse air filtering technology.
  • Iron and other metals filtered in baghouses are recycled.
  • Water used in our steelmaking process is completely recycled, cleaned and used for landscaping our facilities.
