550 3rd Avenue North Minneapolis, MN With ground breaking on August 30, 2007 the Minnesota Twins Ballpark was designed to be one of the most unique parks in Major League Baseball. The outdoor, open-air, natural-grass ballpark designed by HOK Sport Facilities Group, LLC and A&E firm Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. (HGA) boasts one of the closest seating bowls to the playing field in Major League Baseball with 18,000 infield seats. Target Field features a 360-degree open main concourse providing an uninterrupted view of the playing field and one of the largest roof canopies in baseball, which spans nearly the entire seating bowl. Mortenson Construction, one of the top three national builders of sports facilities, is the General Contractor for this $412 million project. The one million square foot, nearly 40,000 seat ballpark will open for the 2010 Major League Baseball season marking the Twins’ 50 th season of playing baseball in the Upper Midwest. CMC Joist & Deck engineered and furnished roughly 40 tons of steel joists; over 3,000 squares of roof deck and composite deck, more than 11,000 LF of gage pour stop, and various other accessories such as cell closure, finish strip, butt strips, mesh column closures, roof sump pans, girder closures, and side lap screws. The joists, both short span and long span were primed with gray paint. The deck was galvanized with a G90 or G135 coating to protect it from the outside environment. Engineering nearly 400 joists, the numerous levels of composite deck and pour stop for the seating areas, the roof deck for the large canopy, and all of the deck accessories posed a great challenge. Our Production department coordinated the timely fabrication and delivery of the multitude of different products. CMC Joist & Deck offers the experience to engineer and deliver joist and deck products for complex and high-profile projects.
