Construction began on the University of Minnesota’s new open-air TCF Bank Stadium on July 11, 2007. The $297,123,000 facility was designed by HOK Sport Facilities Group, LLC, the primary architect, and constructed by Mortenson Construction, the General Contractor. The stadium is a traditional horseshoe-style design with 908,000 square feet of finished space and seating capacity of approximately 50,000. TCF Bank Stadium is the only football stadium in the Big Ten to be laid out with an east-west configuration, which will provide sweeping views of the University campus as well as the Minneapolis skyline.

CMC Joist & Deck supplied and detailed nearly 7,000 squares of roof deck and composite deck, over 18,000 LF of gage metal pour stop, more than 17,000 LF of cell closure, and all other necessary deck accessories. A G90 galvanized coating was provided for the deck to maintain its quality while exposed to the exterior environment. The layout of the stadium created a challenge for our engineering department due to the frequent changes in elevation and a significant amount of edge of slab conditions. As more than 8,800 tons of steel were erected from January through July 2008, our engineering and production staff worked to assure that our products were accurately detailed, manufactured, and delivered to meet the project schedule. Final Commissioning of the structure will occur in Summer 2009 with the first game to be held September 12, 2009.
