| 200 Hurd Road Bethel, NY Bethel Woods Center for the Arts is a 2,000 acre outdoor performing arts venue and museum located at the site of the original 1969 Woodstock festival. The design of the complex features a strong focus on preservation of the historical significance of the site as well as sustainability of the new facilities. CMC Joist & Deck’s United Steel Deck Division is proud to have engineered and fabricated the deck for the 4,500 seat open air pavilion that is situated to provide seating for an additional 10,500 people on the surrounding sloped lawns. The pavilion features several different types of acoustic, long span, and cellular decks arranged in a rather complex layout. The majority of the roof consists of both cellular and non-cellular 4 ½” acoustic deck. The fascia is constructed with both 1 ½” cellular acoustic and 7 ½” cellular deck. Single span conditions and irregular geometry presented a challenge to our engineering department. Sequencing and bundling of the deck required a great deal of coordination due to the size and weight of some of the deck panels. CMC Joist & Deck was able to contribute to the project’s sustainability goals by providing decking products manufactured from partially recycled steel at our nearby (135 miles from the site) New Jersey fabrication facility. This project, which showcases the versatility of our vast product line, saw its first performance on July 1, 2006. |
