General Description
The main purpose for this position is to buy scrap metal and maintain customer relationships for future sales.
Essential Functions
- Buy from Retail, Dealers, Light Industrial customers, repair shops, demolition projects, clean-ups, etc.
- Demonstrates outstanding customer service skills to ensure repeat business.
- Responsible for sourcing and developing client relationships and referrals.
- Buys consultatively and recommends to prospects and clients various solutions the company offers to improve or resolve their business issues.
- Maximizes all opportunities in the process of closing a deal resulting in the taking of market share from competitors.
- Demonstrates the ability to converse with business owners and decision makers.
- Complete understanding of pricing and proposal models.
- Responsible for meeting or exceeding buying/sourcing quotas.
- Participate in a database of qualified leads through referrals, telephone canvassing, direct mail, email and networking.
- Assists in the implementation of company marketing plans as needed.
- Maintains accurate records of all buying/sourcing and prospecting activities including closed sales and follow-up activities within their assigned territory, including the use of Microsoft Outlook.
- Outcalls all potential suppliers that fall within the marketing strategy (bids and auctions).
- Reports all troubled accounts to Marketing Management.
- Attend regularly buyer's meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc.
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures and business ethics codes and ensures that they are communicated.
- Quote prices on scrap based on contracts to fill, market price, volume being offered, and competitor's prices. Quotes may be given over the phone or on-the-spot
- Inspect material
- Develop customer relationships including explaining the process of metal sales.
- Follow price tagging process.
- May need to inspect insulated wire for quality and volume of copper available
- Inform other buyers of price quoted and stay up to date on market conditions.
- Perform back up Buyer responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
-
HS diploma or GED, college coursework or equivalent knowledge or education about metals preferred; Bachelor's Degree preferred
- 4-6 years work experience

Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
- Excellent customer service skills (in person and telephonic)
- Excellent organization skills
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Must be detail oriented
