General Description

Under limited to no supervision, monitors branch safety performance including injuries, injury prevention, hazard identification, hazard control & correction, compliance with OSHA & CMCR safety regulations & policies.

Essential Functions

  • Inspects physical plant several times daily to identify areas of risk & hazards (50% of job).
  • Conducts monthly branch safety meetings & New Hire Orientation Training for branch employees.
  • Provides required equipment training & certifications for branch employees including, but not limited to, forklift & material handler certification, specific equipment safeguards & all other required OSHA training.
  • Supports & assists supervisors in each department with respect to OSHA compliance.
  • Administers disciplinary action through written safety citations & other measures outlined in the CMCR safety regulations.
  • Motivates branch employees towards a safer work environment through administration of the safety incentive program, implementation of the employee-driven WISE safety program & communication of CMCR safety standards.
  • Investigates injuries & accidents with detailed descriptions, corrective actions, appropriate disciplinary action & follow through to ensure corrective action is implemented. In a timely manner, fills out all required OSHA & insurance documentation including OSHA 300, OSHA 301 & First Report of Injury.
  • Completes incident reports & all other safety documentation required.
  • Serves on the Branch Safety Committee.
  • Assists in the implementation of CMCR security standards
  • May supervise or train Asst. Safety Coordinator

Qualifications

  • 4 – 5 yrs min. experience as an Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) coordinator/manager safety coordinator and manager (mobile heavy equipment experience strongly desired)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 1910, OSHA log maintenance
  • Working knowledge of EPA regulations with emphasis on FL DEP (Dept. of Environmental Protection) requirements
  • Experienced in performing hazard analysis, incident investigation techniques, root cause analysis
  • Experienced in developing Job Safety Analysis and Standard Operating Procedure documents

Education/ Key Skills:

  • 2 or 4 yr degree preferred
  • Familiarity in development of Safety Culture and Safety Councils a plus
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • MS Office skills
  • Strong public speaking/teaching skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work with little or no direct supervision
  • Able to arrange schedule to permit 50% of time outdoors touring/inspecting facilities, observing processes and employees, tracking/correcting safety deficiencies
